GE Profile PTWN6250M / PTWN6250MWT HydroWave Infusor washer
Provide a grounded 120-volt circuit for the washer
The PTWN6250M spec sheet lists 120 V, 60 Hz, 10 A. Its installation sheet requires an individual, properly grounded branch circuit and three-prong outlet protected by a 15- or 20-amp breaker or time-delay fuse. Use both statements as appliance rating plus circuit requirement.
GE prohibits extension cords and adapter plugs and says not to remove the grounding prong. Have an electrician correct an unsuitable outlet rather than altering the cord.
- Use individual grounded branch circuit and three-prong outlet.
- Do not use extension cord/adapter or remove ground prong.
- Stop after repeat breaker trip or cord/outlet damage.
Check rating and circuit
Read the rating plate on top of the backsplash and compare the circuit with the installation sheet. The product rating is 120 V, 60 Hz, 10 A; install instructions specify an individual grounded 15- or 20-amp circuit. Do not assume a nearby dryer outlet or multi-appliance circuit is suitable.
The specification sheet says the wall outlet should be within 36 inches of service-cord entry and not behind the dryer. Keep the receptacle reachable and the cord unpinched when the washer is moved into final position.
Preserve grounding and cord integrity
Plug into the properly installed grounded receptacle. The installation sheet warns improper grounding can cause shock and says never modify the supplied plug. Do not cut the third prong, use an adapter, or add an extension cord to reach an outlet.
Inspect the cord and plug externally. If insulation is cut, pins bent, outlet loose, or plug heats during operation, stop and contact an electrician or GE service. Do not remove a panel to inspect wiring.
Respond to power symptoms safely
If the display is blank, check whether the plug is seated and whether the breaker has tripped. The troubleshooting table says to check house breakers/fuses and notes the washer should have a separate outlet. If a breaker trips again, stop resetting it and contact an electrician.
A shared/incorrect outlet, missing ground or need for adapter is an installation issue. A repeated trip or damaged cord is not a cycle-setting problem. Leave internal electrical diagnosis to qualified service.
Separate supply from fill symptoms
A washer that does not fill may have a closed water valve even when the display is powered; an unpowered washer will not respond to controls. Check those branches separately: confirm display/cord/circuit, then both water faucets. Do not touch a plug while standing in water or with wet hands.
The spec sheet gives the appliance electrical rating, while the installation sheet defines circuit and grounding conditions. If the household supply does not meet those conditions, use a licensed electrician, not an adapter or altered plug.
The home outlet or circuit may be the issue.
Check breaker once; have repeated trips or dead outlet assessed.
Installation does not meet washer grounding requirements.
Do not operate; have a qualified electrician install a proper outlet.
Power is present; check water/lid operating conditions.
Close lid and confirm both household faucets are open.
Common questions
Can I use a heavy-duty extension cord?
No. The installation sheet prohibits extension cords and adapter plugs.
Is the 10 A appliance rating the breaker size?
No. The spec sheet lists a 10 A appliance rating; the installation sheet calls for 15- or 20-amp branch protection.
